Experimental Electronic Noise
Performing: Friday, July 8 at 6:00 pm on Nationwide Stage
At first glance, those rugged, rigid radials that make contact with the road might not seem like an apt name for an experimental indie electronic band. But think of the versatility of your vehicle’s instrument: the rhythm of the road under your feet, the ability to produce a screeching peel-out, the edges gripping the asphalt, barely -- just barely -- preventing the car from careening out of control. Watching a TIRES set can send you in all of those directions at once.
Originally the brainchild of local musician/producer Phil Young and instrumentalist/virtuoso Jordan Mayland, the duo has expanded to include Chris Marshall and Cory Wendell on drums, bass, and well, whatever other instrument they feel like taking up: their live shows feature frequent instrument swaps throughout the set. After having released three EPs from 2011-2013, the group took a much-deserved break, but are now back to make their drums, guitars, synthesizers and minds drive at this year’s 80/35.
