Performing: Saturday, July 9 at 7:00 pm on Hy-Vee Main Stage
Black Lips are a beautiful, chaotic mess. Their songs are quick, lo-fi, garage classics that don’t last a second longer than they need to. The music is harmonious and scuzzy and their live shows can be a whirlwind of blood and guts and vomit and the occasional radio controlled car and rock and roll. They are dangerous, yet hypnotic and unavoidable, like sirens at sea who draw you in just to dash you on the rocks. Except the sirens sing songs about taking ecstasy at the Louvre or the mascot for the Atlanta Braves.
Black Lips formed in 1999 with Cole Alexander, Jared Swilley, Joe Bradley and the late Ben Eberbaugh. Jack Hines (also from 80/35 vets K-Holes) has now taken over on guitar. They have taken their chaotic (though now somewhat toned down from the complete anarchy it once was) live show all over the world with stops at many notable music festivals, but also to many areas not generally frequented by American rock bands, like the Middle East and India. And now, after being a frequently requested band, they finally come to 80/35 to destroy us all. Veni vidi vici!
